                                                                            In My Hands
                                                          (Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer)

My book is about the story of a girl names Irene Gut. She is a polish native, but due to the war she’s been all over the place since Poland was invaded by Germany. Her family separated their own ways, but reunited again. Suddenly, Tatuś was taken away, so everyone part their ways in the outside world. Janina and Aunt Helen stayed with Irene. They were taken by Germans, but since Irene knew German, she was put to work for the Germans. That’s where she met Janina again. Shultz, the “Manager” there. He was very politer and respectful to Irene. But, suddenly she sees something that’s not right. She sees how the Jews are being treated, and is mentally sick and confused why they’re being treated unfairly. Shultz sees that she notices, and tells Irene. Anyone that’s helps Jews or is a Jew-Lover is hurt. Shultz class Irene the day, and since then she’s always been thinking about it, and doesn’t see Shultz the same way. She’s also been leaving food under the ghetto as she drugged a hole. But, will she ever get caught?

Imagine leaving your home country due to a cruel war? That’s what happen during World War II. The polish population were facing lot of problems. Some survived, some didn’t, but a short passage that I found in the book that was unreal was, “The driver gunned the engine, and the truck jerked forward, rocking us against one another. We had no way to know where they were taking us. I cranked my head to see out the back, for what I feared was my last view word Poland.” This passage made me wonder what it feels to be them. Knowing the leaving their own country is tough without even knowing what your future is or what you’re going, and what you’re going to except at your destination.

Something I’ll remember for the future is how Irene’s family is an example of what families had to go through during World War II. After two years from seeing each other, Irene’s family finally reunited. Everything seemed to be going well, until Tatuś, a member of the family was being taken. Everything went chaos, and everyone split except Aunt Helen, Janina, and Irene. “I thought I could be allowed to be happy once again, said Irene when her family reunited once again. I would remember this in the future because during the war many families had to be split, and family could be a key detail into al lot. Maybe they cross paths? Maybe some betray one another? A lot of things could happen during war that could cause conflict.
